Duracotus’ Journal

In Kepler's Somnium, the protagonist, Duracotus, leaves his native Iceland and travels to the Moon, where he encounters a society of inhabitants on the hemisphere facing Earth. Building on this narrative, Bettina reimagined Iceland's volcanic terrain as a lunar landscape, documenting Duracotus' explorations through fictional journal entries, maps, collected specimens, and visual records.

Presented as an explorer's field notes, the installation blurs the boundaries between scientific documentation and imaginative storytelling. Although entirely fictional, the materials adopt the visual language and authority of scientific research, transporting viewers to an era when the Moon's geography was still largely unknown and astronomers imagined seas and oceans across its surface.
