Galerie de la Ville presents in February/March an exhibition of acrylic and mixed media works by Montreal artist Bettina Forget entitled 'Lunar Genesis'. Like artists of the Renaissance whose art incorporated and interpreted new scientific discoveries, Bettina Forget finds inspiration in the mysteries revealed to us by the scientific eye. Allowed to view distant planets, moons and suns through the viewfinder of powerful telescopes trained at the skies, the pictures taken from space ships of the heavenly bodies which surround us, and the images beamed back to Earth by probes like Voyager, Galileo, and now Beagle, the artist explores the many levels of meaning these images represent for her.

This exhibition features recent works which focus especially on the contemplation of the many moons in our solar system. The artist approaches the exploration of these moons from three perspectives: the moons as physical entities, formed, textured, lit as they follow their orbits; the moons as symbols of 'our' universe expanded beyond the physical configuration of our earth; the moons as inspiration for philosphical and spiritual thought. These levels are expressed through the manipulation of media and the juxtaposition of visual elements and symbols. Canvases are pierced or woven, digital prints are joined to acrylic paints and other media, collage and assemblage are combined to create intriguing images that aim to blur the lines between science and art.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, Bettina Forget is a graduate of Curtin University of Technology / Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Perth, Australia and Singapore) and studied design in schools in London, england. She currently works and exhibits out of her Montreal area studio and is represented by galleries in Montreal and Hamburg (Germany).
