ABOUT ME

I'm a visual artist, living in Montreal, Canada. Before moving to Montreal in 2002, I lived in Singapore, where I studied Fine Arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (a BA course that was offered off-shore by Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. This meant that some of the course was given in Perth, which was an amazing experience). I've also spent six years living in London, England, where I studied Graphic Design at Central St Martins School of Art (another BA) and worked for a while as a graphic designer. I'm originally from Hamburg, Germany, though I haven't lived there since 1987.

After wandering the globe I'm pretty much settled here in Montreal. Besides working daily in my down-town studio, I'm also an avid hobby astronomer. I'm member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada's Montreal Centre, where I'm Director of Observational Activities, Director of the Lunar Observing Programme, editor of the newsletter Skyward, and the webmaster. Let's just say it keeps me busy. On clear nights I'm out with my 8" Dobsonian or my 3.5" Meade ETX, sketching at the eyepiece.

I'm also volunteering for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Now I provide mostly creative and graphic design services for various fundraisers, though in 2006 I was co-president of the Eyes Wide Open masked soirée (together with my friend Alexandra MacDougall) which demanded more management skills (and a lot of time!).

Somehow I manage to juggle both art and astronomy - and I'm not the only one. I'm member of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA), a group of professional artists with an interest in astronomy as well as professional astronomers with an interest in art. A most interesting group!
